About Mike

Michael Brown, born on June 23, 1955, in Saint Augustine, Florida, is a distinguished individual with a strong commitment to public service and community development. With an extensive background in law enforcement, government, and advocacy, Michael has dedicated his life to making a positive impact on society.

​

After graduating from Louis D. Brandeis High School in New York City as part of the Class of 1973, Michael pursued higher education at Springfield College, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services. Deeply committed to serving his country, Michael served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge for his exemplary service.

​

Michael's passion for law enforcement led him to complete 388 hours of specialized training in this field,
equipping him with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute effectively to public safety. His dedication to
his community led him to serve three consecutive four-year terms as a City Councilman At-Large, representing
the City of Wilmington.

During his tenure on the City Council, Mike assumed vital roles, including being Chairperson of the Public Safety Committee, where he demonstrated his commitment to ensuring the well-being of his fellow citizens. Additionally, he served as a member of the Finance Committee, Economic Development Committee, Public Works Committee, License and Inspection Committee, and the Youth and Family Committee, allowing him to comprehensively tackle various aspects of community development.

Michael is a passionate advocate for labor and unions, recognizing the vital role they play in safeguarding workers' rights and promoting fair employment practices. His dedication to community service and outstanding contributions have not gone unnoticed. In 1995, he received the prestigious Jefferson Award for his exceptional commitment to community service.

Throughout his career, Michael has held positions of influence in several organizations, including serving as a former board member of Limen House, an organization dedicated to helping individuals recover from addiction. He was also an appointed member of the State Drug and Alcohol Task Force, where he worked towards developing effective strategies to combat substance abuse.

As a former board member of the National Organization Black Law Enforcement Executives (N.O.B.L.E) and
Vice President of the NAACP, Newark Branch,
Michael actively promoted equality, justice, and social progress

within his community.

MY MISSION

As a candidate for County Council, my mission is to serve and represent the residents of our community with integrity, dedication, and a strong commitment to their well-being. I believe in the power of effective leadership and community engagement to bring about positive change and improve the quality of life for all.

My mission is to create a county that thrives on inclusivity, sustainability, and opportunity. I will work tirelessly to foster an environment where every voice is heard, and everyone feels valued and represented. I am dedicated to promoting transparency, accountability, and open communication in all aspects of governance.

I will prioritize the pressing needs of the county, focusing on critical areas such as infrastructure development, affordable housing initiatives, economic growth, and public safety. I am committed to collaborating with local businesses, organizations, and residents to cultivate a vibrant and 
prosperous community.

Furthermore, I recognize the importance of preserving and enhancing our natural resources. I will advocate for sustainable practices, responsible environmental policies, and initiatives that protect our parks, green spaces, and promote a healthier and cleaner county for future generations. Education and youth empowerment are also fundamental to our community's success.

I will work diligently to support our schools, expand access to quality education, and create opportunities for our youth to develop their skills, talents, and aspirations. Finally, I firmly believe in 
the power of community engagement and collaboration. I will actively seek input from residents, neighborhood associations, and community organizations to ensure that decisions reflect the diverse needs and aspirations of our county.
